Cape Dispatch · Cape May County, New Jersey
A live map of public-safety activity in Cape May County, New Jersey: fire, EMS, police and traffic incidents, scanner audio, weather, tides, traffic and other public data in one place, with optional push alerts for places you care about. It runs at capemaydispatch.com; the iPhone app opens the same site. It is an independent project run by Cape May.
Mostly from public-safety radio: scanner audio (including public Broadcastify streams) is transcribed by software and turned into incidents. We add official public feeds (for example the National Weather Service, NOAA, NJ 511 and NJ Transit, USGS, NASA FIRMS and utility outage data), traffic data, and verified local news. Members can add photos and video from scenes.
Radio is not a complete record of what is happening, transcription software mishears words, and locations spoken on the radio often have to be estimated, so map positions can be approximate. Feeds can also be delayed or go down. Treat Cape Dispatch as a heads-up, not as confirmed fact, and never as a substitute for official instructions or 911.
On purpose. Calls involving juveniles, domestic incidents, overdoses and mental-health emergencies are withheld from the public map and are never pushed as alerts.
Email CapeMayDispatch@gmail.com with the incident's time and location (or its link). Tell us if it is wrong, duplicated, or exposes someone's private situation. We review reports and correct, hide or remove the incident.
No. The map, incident list and scanner audio work without one. An account is needed to upload photos or video and for some extra views.
Sign in, open Account and choose Delete account. Your account and the photos and videos you uploaded are deleted right away. If you cannot sign in, email CapeMayDispatch@gmail.com from the address on your account (or include your username) and we will delete it, normally within 30 days. To stop alerts and delete your saved alert places, turn alerts off in the app.
Tap Alerts on the map and allow notifications. You can save places with a radius to only get nearby alerts. On iPhone, web alerts require adding the site to your Home Screen. Alerts can be delayed or missed, so do not rely on them for your safety.
